Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first female vice presidency and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She was well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
